MARCH Maple Sugar Festival
A free family treat!  Hands-on fun with kids’ activities plus tapping a tree, eating real maple syrup on ice cream, and learning the mysteries of maple sugar making.   Try maple taste tests, see a great DVD on maple sugar activities & shop for delicious Pa. maple products.

Holiday Egg Hunt
Thousands of plastic eggs will be filled with candy and scattered on the east lawn. Hunts are scheduled for ages 2 – 3 at 2:30, ages 4 – 5 at 3:00, ages 6 – 7 at 3:30 and ages 8 – 9 at 4:00.  Take part in special family activities such as face painting, pony rides and more.  Pre-register or drop-in.

Homeschoolers' Day
Dive into early Native American life! Students in grades 2-6 and their parents are invited to Fort Hunter for a hands-on workshop experience. The visit, including time for a bag lunch, runs just under 4 hours.  In the 1 ½ hour Native American workshop students will make pottery, furnish a wigwam and more.  Children will also tour the Fort Hunter Mansion.  By reservation only: groups of 15 or more call 717-599-5188, ext 2116; for individuals or groups of less than 15 email Jamey at jrmcclintock@paonline.com.

“Such a Day & Time as Harrisburg Has Never Before Witnessed": Charles Rawn Records Abraham Lincoln's Visits to Harrisburg
Abraham Lincoln's first trip through the city was cut short when credible threats were made against his life in Baltimore--his inaugural train's next scheduled destination. So Lincoln left Harrisburg under the cover of darkness and arrived with the dawn in Washington D.C. Charles Rawn, a local Harrisburg native writes about Harrisburg's extensive preparation for the president-elect's visit, his own thoughts about Lincoln, and then Lincoln's strange disappearance from the city. Join Penn State graduate student Rebecca Jean Hershner in revealing her research on Micheal Barton’s Charles Rawn at this timely lecture.

Journey to a Hidden African American Cemetery
Explore a significant historic site on an intimate tour blending history, music and poetry.  The program focuses on the African Americans associated with Fort Hunter since the 1700s. The tour will include a 1 mile walk (some uneven forest land).  If the walk is cancelled due to heavy rain, the program will be held indoors.  Refreshments will be provided.

MAY Garden Faire
Celebrate spring at Fort Hunter’s free event.  Stroll through the plant sale & craft show amidst a scenic park enhanced by Victorian buildings.  Victorian dancing exhibits on Victorian daily life as well as tasty food at the Café and an art show and sale.  Garden chats, children’s activities, as well as cakewalks to live music. Fee for Mansion tour.

JUNE Music & Wine Festival
Relax and listen to the music of national recording artists along with Pennsylvania’s elite musicians while enjoying beautiful Fort Hunter Park.  Sample some of Pennsylvania’s finest wineries.  Bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic basket.  Saturday enjoy Billy Price, Nate Myers and The Acres and Little Ivory Blues Band.  On Sunday listen to Mahoney Brothers “Jukebox Heroes Legends Show”, Don Johnson Project and Voxology.

SEPTEMBER Archaeological Excavation
Archaeologists from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission continue their search for the 1750s French and Indian War fort.  They’ve also been uncovering ancient Native American objects and artifacts from 1700s-1900s life at the Mansion.

Dauphin County Jazz Festival

OCTOBER Pennsylvania Indians Festival
Curious about how Pennsylvania Indians once lived?  Visit a wigwam, learn about the food Indians grew and gathered, how they hunted and made fire.  See their tools, dances, music & beadwork.  See the clothing, animals and plants they used.  Food stand and a specialized museum shop. The elegantly decorated 1800s Mansion, with its Museum Shop, hosts a traditional tea.  Visitors will enjoy tasty tea sandwiches, desserts, and spiced tea.  At the Centennial Barn are the Greens Sale, the Kids Only Shop and Craft Reunion shop.
